The Dhaka Dynamites franchise of the Bangladesh Premier League has roped in the services of Sri Lankan all-rounder Asela Gunaratne. The all-rounder has been one of the hot properties in the shortest format of the game in the recent times. Ever since he made his debut at the international level, he has made giant strides in the world of cricket. He rose to prominence during the limited overs series in the Sri Lanka tour to South Africa in 2016-17 season.

His superlative form continued during the T20I series against Australia in the month of February earlier this year. He played a match winning knock in one of the matches during the series that saw him become an overnight sensation. The brand of Asela Gunaratne only grew multiple folds when he was handed an IPL contract at the IPL auctions 2017. The Mumbai Indians camp bought him at the auctions.

Although he did not get a single game to play in the edition, the addition of Gunaratne in the roster was hailed as a smart move by the MI camp. Now, he is set to give his services to the defending champions of the BPL – the Dhaka Dynamites. Albeit the officials and the team management have not given a confirmation regarding the same yet, it is apparent that he has been signed by the franchise.

An apparent announcement

The Dhaka Dynamites posted a picture with rearranged letters of his name and asked the fans who the new member is. They posted, “LAEES ANGURATEN”. They also had a caption going along with it. “Once into the national side, this all-rounder made an instant impact in the longer format with a fifty on debut and followed it up with a century in the next game. In the T20 series in Australia, he notched up back to back half-centuries to seal the series,” they added as the caption.

The 31-year old all-rounder has played 16 ODIs, 9 T20Is, and 4 Tests for Sri Lanka till now. Among the other players in the Dynamites roster, the prominent names include Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Shane Watson, Sunil Narine, and Kumar Sangakkara.
