Asghar Stanikzai replaces Mohammad Nabi as Afghanistan Captain: Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed batsman Asghar Stanikzai as the skipper of the national team after their skipper Mohammad Nabi resigned from the post after leading his side in a historical World Cup Campaign. Opener Javed Ahmedi is named as Stanikzai’s assistant. His first assignment is to lead Afghans in the ICC Intercontinental Cup.
After hearing this news, Stanikzai thanked the Afghan Board and the supports for this. He also said that he will try his best to develop his team.
In his official Facbook page, Stanikzai posted
After Radical Changes in the History of Afghanistan Cricket, I have been selected as a Captain for our Team. In fact it is a big responsibility. First of all I would like to thank ACB Selection Committee for giving me this honour, secondly, I’m thankful to all my Compatriots & Supporters.
INSHALLAH I’m trying my best for professionalism and technical development of our team. The only thing I need is your prayers. So, please remember us in your prayers.
Love you all
ASGHAR STANIKZAI
Earlier, Nabi resigned from the role citing poor form and vowed to help the new captain in giving him advices when he needs them. He also said that he will continue as a player for the team.
I have served Afghanistan’s national team as captain for more than two years. I tried my best to bring victories to our team and the nation. Given the recent performance of the team and particularly my out of form status, I would like you to accept my resignation as captain and allow me to continue to play as a team player. We performed very well in the World Cup. For the first time in the history of Afghanistan cricket we won a game. I will continue to play with the team and advise the new captain, Nabi told skysports.com while announcing his retirement.
