Ashes 2015: Ben Stokes says the game is not over yet: When the second day of the 4th Ashes Test match ended, England was sitting on the brink of regaining the beloved Urn. In this Ashes series, on every other occasion, someone from the English camp steps up and performs.
Yesterday, it was the dazzling performance of English all-rounder Ben Stokes which broke the backbone of the Australian batting line-up. The Durham all-rounder who is 15-Test old, claimed second fifer of his career. Reflecting on his team’s excellent performance, the 24-year old said that, “We’re in an unbelievable position here. They’re not quite in our grasp yet, but we hope they’re very close. We know no game is over until the last wicket is taken, so we’ll take that attitude in.”
Yesterday, the Australian’s were showing signs of fight back as their openers had put up a 113-run stand before Stokes wrecked the Australian innings as well as their hopes of staging a comeback in the series. He took 3 wickets for four runs in 13 balls just before the tea. While in the evening session, Stokes grabbed the wickets of Peter Nevill and Mitchell Johnson respectively. At the end of the day’s play his figures read 5/35.

Ben Stokes was lashed with extra added responsibilities in the absence of English pace spearhead James Anderson. Talking about that massive blow, the star English all-rounder said that, “We came in without Jimmy, who is a massive loss…I’m really happy with being given the extra responsibility.”
“I’ve always been able to do it, but I’ve never had a chance to bowl for England when the conditions have been so in favor of swing,” he said.
Apart from Stokes, the Australian pacer Mitchell Starc also had a splendid outing yesterday. He ended up with figures of 6/111, which is his best in Test cricket so far. But, even Starc knew that it hardly had that much of an impact on the game.
Mitchell Starc said that, “I would give those six back to be none down overnight. We’re not going anywhere. Over the years, Australian lower-order has been renowned for its fighting credentials with the bat. Starc further added that, We’ll fight right to the end, right to the last wicket, the last run, it’s just in our nature.”
