The ongoing edition of the Ashes hasn’t been short of excitement by any stretch of the imagination. The fourth Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester is currently underway and both Australia and England are trying to get the all-important win, which will help them take an unassailable lead in the series. Meanwhile, there was a funny moment that took place between Nathan Lyon and Joe Root.

The hilarious occurring took place in the 62nd over of England’s first innings. Root, the Three Lions’ Test skipper, was seeing the ball like a football, having scored 67 runs. Along with him was the in-form left-handed Rory Burns, who was batting on 79 with the Brits’ score at 163 for the loss of two wickets. At that point in time, the hosts were still trailing by a mammoth margin of 334 runs.

Out of the blues, Lyon tried to play a trick. The off-break bowler tried to alter the bails at the non-striker’s end. However, the Aussie spinner didn’t realize that he was being watched by Root. Just when Lyon turned back and started going towards his bowling mark, Root undid the former’s actions. Amidst all the tensions and commotion in the series, it added some humour to proceedings.

Here is the video

Root and Burns scores fifties

Burns and Root came together when the hosts had lost opener Joe Denly and night-watchman Craig Overton inside 12 overs. England had a trail of 472 in front of them and the duo had to step up and bail the team out of jail. They tried their hearts out for 52.5 overs in which they stitched together a vital stand of 141 runs. Burns and Root didn’t play shots out of anger and got their half-centuries.

Just when the partnership was starting to look ominous, Josh Hazlewood got rid of Burns, who scored 81 off 185 balls with the help of nine fours. To add insult to injury, a couple of overs later, Root fell prey to Hazlewood. The Englishman was trapped plumb in front and he had to perish after a well-compiled 71 off 168 balls with 10 boundaries.
