Luck was again not on David Warner’s side as Ben Stokes dismissed him for 95 runs in the ongoing second Ashes Test on day one. Before getting out, Warner played a range of shots and was looking to score his 25th century, which has been long due. Warner scored his last Test century against New Zealand on 3rd January 2020. Warner made 94 runs during the first Test before Ollie Robinson picked his wicket.

Warner walked towards the dressing room frustratingly. Just before he was exiting the ground, Warner took off his gloves and gave them to a kid standing there in the stands.

Warner had a partnership of 172 runs with Marnus Labuschagne for the second wicket. This partnership helped Australia dominate the English bowling attack. England, who has opted for an all-pace attack in this game, is missing a spinner who might have created some pressure from one end.

Australia has made two changes, but the team has Nathan Lyon, who has been on a dominant run at the Adelaide Oval. Lyon has picked 51 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 26.94. His tally of wickets is second to Shane Warne, who took 56 wickets in 13 games. Joe Root understood the importance of spin on this pitch after the 22nd over and introduced himself as the spin bowler. Root bowled 11 overs and gave away 37 runs.

Marnus Labuschagne’s dream run continues

Along with Warner, Labuschagne has also been in great form in these two games. He made 74 runs off 117 balls in the first Test. He has continued in this match from where he left in the first Test. At the time of writing this, he had made 94 runs off 255 balls.

Labuschagne’s Test career is only 20 games, and he has hit five centuries. He has made one double-century and 12 half-centuries in Test cricket. Labuschagne is currently placed in the second position in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings with 894 rating points. He jumped two positions after scoring the half-century in the last game.
