Jos Buttler had done all the hard work. He had thwarted the Australian bowling attack and had consumed 206 deliveries. However, off the 207th delivery that he faced, Buttler had to walk back to the pavilion, in sensational circumstances.

It looked as if Australia were unable to dislodge Buttler, but in a twist of fate, the England batter was out, hit wicket. To a short-pitched delivery from Jhye Richardson, Buttler went onto the back foot and played the ball towards the offside.

But in the process, the right-hander’s leg touched the stumps, and he was out hit wicket. Buttler was distraught after his epic vigil out in the middle ended. It was also the 1st time that Buttler was out hit wicket in his Test career as well.

“What a way to end an epic innings! That’s the first time Buttler has been dismissed hit wicket in his 193-innings first-class career,” tweeted the official Twitter handle of Cricket Australia.

Australia thrash England by 275 runs at the Adelaide Oval

Australia decimated the England side by 275 runs in the 2nd Test at the Adelaide Oval.  The England side resumed the final day at 82/4, and many would have thought that the England side would surrender meekly after the drubbing they received in the 1st Test. But then, Buttler and Chris Woakes displayed stubborn defiance.

The duo consumed a whopping 31.2 overs, put on a partnership of 61 runs, and frustrated the England bowling attack. Even after the departure of Woakes, Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad showed resistance and character. However, England could not play out the day, as the Aussies posted an emphatic victory.

For Australia, the pick of the bowlers was Jhye Richardson. The right-arm seamer scalped 5 wickets in the England second innings and troubled the opposition. The 3rd Test match will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and will commence on 26th December 2021.
