After Ranji Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali, it’s time for the Vijay Hazare Trophy India’s premier one-day tournament. The 2016-17 season of the tournament will kick off on February 25 and the final will be played on March 18. Delhi announced their squad and veteran Ashish Nehra is making a comeback to the slightly longer format of the game.

He will play under 19-year-old Rishabh Pant who is half his age. There are other senior members in the squad who will play under this youngster but Nehra will be the senior most. The Indian speedster will play three of the six games. As the recovery time between the games is very less and the veteran will not be able to cope up with it. The 38-year-old pacer who performed brilliantly in the T20 series against England plans to make a comeback to the One-Day squad for the much-awaited Champions Trophy.

Ashish will play a one-day national tournament after two years. He will look to impress the selectors in the 3 matches he will play. While one veteran is picked another youngster has been dropped. Unmukt Chand who was termed the next big thing after he led India U19 to the title in 2012 World Cup has been dropped. He led Delhi in some of the Ranji games this season but has been dropped because of his inconsistent performances over the last three years.

The state selectors have shown a lot of faith in him in recent years but he has not been able to capitalize on any of the occasions. His exclusion came as a surprise to everyone but there were some other surprises as well.

He will be with the squad for three games:

Rishabh Pant (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Milind Kumar, Dhruv Shorey, Sarthak Ranjan, Himmat Singh, Nitish Rana, Manan Sharma, Pawan Negi, Pulkit Narang, Pradeep Sangwan, Navdeep Saini, Vikas Tokas, Kulwant Khejroliya
