Ravichandran Ashwin’s attempted run in the match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) has become the topic of debate in the world of cricket. The 34-year-old attempted a run after the ball had ricocheted off the non-striker’s arm (Rishabh Pant), and that has got people talking about whether Ashwin’s act is right or not.

Former South African pace bowling legend Dale Steyn offered his thoughts on the issue. Steyn opined that every cricketer plays the game in the way he wants to play it. Adding that he would have personally not attempted an extra run in that situation, Steyn stated that he is proud of his performances if they come in the way he has practiced them.

“Everyone plays the game the way they want to play it. Personally I would not run, if I knew that it had hit the other batter, the way that I play is the way that I practice. I don’t practice running when the ball has hit the opposite batter. I will be more proud of my performances if they came the way I have been practicing,” said Steyn in a chat with ESPNCricinfo.

I cannot hold what Ravi Ashwin did against him: Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn further stated that the laws of the game allow Ashwin to do what he did against the Kolkata side. The South African legend also said that Ashwin is someone who likes to squeeze every rule to his advantage, and concluded by stating that he cannot hold what Ashwin did against him.

“But the laws of the game allow it, and Ashwin is somebody who will squeeze every rule that he can out of the book to his advantage, and that is the way he likes to play. It is not the way that I would play, but cannot hold it against him,” concluded Dale Steyn.

The KKR side beat the Delhi Capitals (DC) side with 3 wickets and 10 balls to spare in the encounter between the two outfits.
