Aussie opener David Warner joins the legends with a special feat: David Warner joined two greats of the game today after he smashed his 14th Test century at the Gabba. He became just the third batsman to register a century twice in a Test match on three occasions.
Warner scored a quickfire 116 from 113 balls to take Australia to an unbeatable position in the first Test match against New Zealand.
David Warner batted with a broken finger and score this sublime century and enter into the record books. Warner had achieved this feat against South Africa and India in the year 2014 respectively.
During Australia’s tour of South Africa, David Warner scored centuries in both innings in the 3rd Test. Similarly, Warner scored 145 and 102 in the 1st Test against India during their home series versus India in the same year.
Before him, former Australian Captain Ricky Ponting and Little Master Sunil Gavaskar have scored back to back centuries thrice.
Ricky Ponting (149, 104*) first scored twin centuries in 2005 against West Indies. In 2006, he did this feat twice against South Africa scoring 120,143*, 103,116
Gavaskar also did the same against the formidable West Indies and Pakistan. The first time Gavaskar did so was in 1971 against West Indies where he scored 124 in the first innings and a double century (220) in the second innings.
The second instance came against Pakistan 1978 where he scored (111 and 137). Lastly, Gavaskar’s 107 and 182* against West Indies happens third and last time he repeated the feat.
