The Australian side has had a pretty tough time coping with the retirement of Brad Haddin as they have failed to find a proper replacement for him ever since. They’ve tried quite a few names since and one of the prime contenders to take over that position was Peter Nevill. He failed to convert the big chances and eventually succumbed to the pressure of the competition.
Tim Paine was called back to the side and completely out of the blue, he even managed to become the Test captain of the side. This abruptly kept Nevill out of action, but the New South Wales cricketer is striving hard in the domestic circuit to regain his position in the national side.
Analyzing the upcoming Test series against India, which will kick-start on 6th December in Adelaide, Nevill reckons the pace trio of the hosts will give the Indians a tough time. The 33-year-old also reminisced on how good they are when the ball starts to reverse.
“They’re (Hazlewood, Cummins, Starc) bowling as well as I’ve seen them bowl. Particularly the reverse-swing bowling. It was a fairly abrasive wicket in Manuka and they all bowled with a lot of class and a great amount of skill. They’ll be a very difficult challenge for the Indian team,” Nevill said in an interview with Cricket Australia.
It’s a pleasure keeping to Lyon: Nevill
The New South Wales veteran also highlighted that off-spinner Nathan Lyon will be a force to reckon with. This is something the Indians wouldn’t disagree with as the 31-year-old off-spinner picked up 23 wickets in the four Tests when India last visited Australia in 2014-15. With 318 Test scalps to his name, he will be keen to aid the wounded hosts with some big wickets.
Nevill also quoted that it was a fantastic experience to keep wickets for Lyon, who always poses a great challenge with his steep bounce and turn. “He [Lyon] has been fantastic. His form for the last year has been phenomenal. He’s bowling as well as he’s ever bowled. It’s always a pleasure keeping to him,” Nevill said.
