Former Indian cricketer Sunil Joshi is working with the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin consultant. The 47-year old has made an instant impression, with the hosts securing their maiden Test win against Australia. The Bangladesh side, led by Mushfiqur Rahim clinched a 20-run victory in the 1st Test match at Mirpur. Out of the 40 wickets, 34 fell to spinners.

A major co-incident

Clearly, the spinners from both the sides have managed to take advantage from the spin friendly wicket, that was on offer. This was also Tiger’s 10th Test victory in 101 Test matches. Incidentally, Joshi played a key role in Bangladesh’s maiden Test match against India, in the year 2000. The slow left-arm orthodox bowler was adjudged the player of the match, as they went on to beat the new comers.

Mind games are on

“The victory in the year 2000 was a historic occasion and now this one too is. I am happy to have made a positive contribution,” Joshi told The Times of India. Joshi also added that there is one special delivery which the visitors have failed to pick, and it is the same delivery that brought success to the Indian bowlers, during India’s home series against the Aussies earlier this year.  “There is one delivery that the Australians are struggling to pick up since the India series. “I won’t say which one it is till the series ends because I don’t want the Aussies to come up with a counter-plan but I picked up on it when they were playing India. I have told the Bangladesh bowlers to keep bowling that delivery and it’s working,” he said.

Even though Joshi didn’t reveal much regarding the special delivery, but one thing is for sure, that the hosts have an edge going into the 2nd Test match, starting on 4th September.
