The New Women’s team registered its third victory in as many games after they effortless beat Australia by 6 wickets at the VCA Stadium, Nagpur.
Chasing a target of 104 runs to win, the Kiwis openers Suzie bates (23 from 25 balls) and Rachael Priest (34 from 27 balls) did a fantastic job with the bat and wrapped up the match with 3.4 overs to spare.
Meg Lanning’s decision to bat first after winning the toss turned out to be disastrous as they crumbled down badly to 4/4 in 4 overs. Alyssa Healy made only 2 runs before departing in the first over.
Elyse Villani, Erin Osborne and Kipper Meg Lanning all fell for ducks. Elyse Perry and AJ Blackwell then brought some brief respite. But, the partnership couldn’t last very long after Blackwell lost her wicket in the 12th over.
Perry, however, continued batting well and got into the rescue act again with Jess Jonassen. Both ladies stitched a wonderful 49 run stand before Elyse Perry (42 from 48 balls) lost her wicket.
Berth Mooney (15 from 11 balls) then came in played a quickfire cameo along with Jonassen 23 from 22 balls) to take Australian team total past 100 runs mark and eventually ending at manageable 103/8 in 20 overs.
Unlike their counterparts, the Kiwis women started off excellently, putting up a 58 run opening partnership. Suzie Bates and Rachael Priest both looked fluent while in the middle. However, both the opener lost their wickets in short succession.
But, their quick departure did not hinder the chase as rest of the runs was smoothly knocked off by the collective efforts of Sophie Devine (117 from 17 balls), Sra McGlashan (11 from 16 balls) and Amy Satterthwaite (16 from 12 balls).
