Steven Smith asked the West Indies follow on after being bowled out for 223 in their first innings on the third day that turned out to be the last day of this match. The visitors’ second innings lasted just 36.3 overs as James Pattinson, making a Test comeback, made his presence felt in a grand style.

Darren Bravo and Kemar Roach started the day for the visitors hoping to further delay the Aussie progress however it didn’t quite work out that way. Roach was the first to go early as he flirted at a delivery by Josh Hazlewood that was outside the off stump, only to end up giving a catch to Peter Nevill behind the wickets. A first ball duck for Jerome Taylor, who was out bowled, meant Hazlewood was on a hat-trick which was safely negotiated by Jomel Warrican.

Bravo was able to reach a richly deserved hundred and was the last man to be dismissed by Siddle. His brilliant 108 came to an end as he tried to go for a big one but top-edged it to Nathan Lyon at point. Shannon Gabriel due to his injury wasn’t able to bat in both the innings

Pattinson removed Rajendra Chandrika in the 2nd over with a brilliant full delivery that he nicked it to Steve Smith at slip. Bravo was cleaned up while Samuels got an unplayable rising ball from the big fast bowler. When he rattled Jermaine Blackwood’s stumps in the 8th over, the Windies were tottering at 24/4. Mitchell Marsh took the wicket of Ramdin and Pattinson completed his five-for with the wicket of Jason Holder.

3 wickets from Hazlewood completed the drubbing as the Aussies registered a win by an inning and 212 runs. The only bright spot in the second innings for the visitors was the innings of opener Kraigg Brathwaite who made an exceptional 94 that included 13 fours and 1 six. His footwork was precise and showed great determination in getting behind the line of the ball. The visitors will need similar batting efforts from other batsmen if they are to avoid another humiliation in the remaining 2 Tests.
