Day three of the ongoing first Test match between Australia and India proved to be the moving day in Adelaide. The visitors are firmly in the grip of the game thanks to an exceptional effort from their batsmen in the second essay. While the Indian openers wore out the new ball with a 63-run partnership, the duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli then tired out the bowlers with some attritional cricket in the final session to end the day on top. Though the latter was snaffled by Nathan Lyon, his partner kept going until the stumps.
The rain-marred third day saw a much-improved effort from the openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay. Both of them left the ball well when the red cherry was new and then pummelled the opposition bowlers with authority. The former, especially, was on song and the way he creamed Pat Cummins for a six over sweeper-cover was the shot of the day.
Having said that, there were some scary moments which they had to go through with the ball bouncing suddenly off the good length. But the duo didn’t deter and added 63 runs in 18 overs before Mitchell Starc induced the dreaded drive off Vijay. Soon Rahul also edged the ball behind the stumps and India were in trouble.
The third session was going to be crucial and Australia bowled with full intensity to keep Virat Kohli quiet. But the master kept his calm and fought through the tough period along with the in-form Pujara. They added 71 runs for the third wicket and almost had the hosts on the mat. But Lyon gave them hope just at the stroke of stumps as India ended the day on 150/3 with a total lead of 165 runs.
Good Morning for India
Earlier in the morning, the start of the play was delayed due to the persistent rain. But when it started, India got a quick breakthrough thanks to Jasprit Bumrah. But Lyon played some glorious shots to cut down the lead which made things interesting. Just when the Aussies were hoping to take a slender lead, Mohammed Shami skittled the last two wickets one of which was of Travis Head who batted really well for his 72.
Australia were bowled for 235 as they needed some quick wickets to boss the game. But it went the other way around for them with India batting well. Having said that, the first session on the will be extremely crucial as India will further look to take the game away from the home side by extending their lead beyond 250.
Meanwhile, the social media gimmicks were at their best and through their memes tried to praise and troll the cricketers involved as there was some sledging in the middle as well.
