The 19-year-old batsman played under Prithvi Shaw’s leadership in the U19 World Cup in New Zealand and has turned up with a number of impressive knocks. He was in top-notch form for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, having scored 418 runs in seven matches with three half-centuries and a ton. Thereafter, he notched a match-winning century, playing for India ‘C’ in the Deodhar Trophy.

The Fazilka-born talent has represented his state in one match of this season’s Ranji Trophy and racked up a couple of half-centuries. Gill is currently plying his trade for India ‘A’ in their third unofficial Test against New Zealand ‘A’ at Whangarei. He also got a national call-up midway through the second match against the Caribbeans and the selectors may resort to his services if Shaw gets ruled out of the series.
