The year 2018 proved to be one of the best for the Indian skipper Virat Kohli as he had a successful year both as a batsman and as captain. After the victory at the MCG, the Indian skipper equalled Sourav Ganguly‘s record of most wins in the overseas Test as an Indian captain. Under his leadership, in 2018 Team India won all the home series (ODI, Test, T20I). Indians also tasted success on away tours as they won ODI and T20I series in South Africa. They also won the T20 series in England and Ireland as well.

Team India is currently ranked number one side in Test, number 2 in both ODI and T20Is rankings. The 30-year-old batsman had a wonderful year with the bat as he achieved quite a few milestones and broke many records as well. He was the number one batsman in both Tests and ODIs as per the ICC rankings

Notable records which he attained in the previous year were becoming the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 runs in ODIs, he just took 205 innings to reach the milestone bettering Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 259 innings. He was also the 1st player to score 100s in 3 consecutive matches against 2 opponents (Sri Lanka and Windies).

Virat Kohli on verge of breaking 4 captaincy records in Sydney

Virat so far has managed 11 victories in his 24 Tests that he has captained overseas. He also equalled Ganguly’s record (11 wins in 28 Tests) of most wins in the overseas Tests as an Indian captain. If he leads India to victory at Sydney he will be the most successful Test captain for India overseas. Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is 3rd in the list having won 6 overseas Tests out of 30 they played under his captaincy.

If India manages to pull off a victory or even a draw at the Sydney Test will ensure India’s first ever Test series victory in Australia and Virat will become the first Indian captain to win Test series on Australian soil. Victory at Sydney means India will win the series 3-1 and Virat Kohli will become the first Indian captain to win two series outside their nation with 3 wins in the series. He had previously led India to a historic whitewash against Sri Lanka in 2017.

If India wins the fourth Test match in Sydney, Virat will also join the likes of Bishan Singh Bedi and Mushtaq Mohammad in becoming the most successful Asian captain with three Test victories in Australia.
