MS Dhoni once again it was for India to finish the game. Though he didn’t play the winning shot, the veteran’s stay in the middle always kept the fans calm. The Men in Blue have done a double on Australia on this tour now for the first time by winning the Test and ODI series. This series was surely the second coming of MS Dhoni – the master of the finishes – who has now three successive half-centuries to his name in the ODIs.

Many thought the 231-run chase would be a cakewalk for India. But the slow pitch and Australia’s exceptional bowling made life difficult for the openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. A little rain just before the start of the second innings helped the ball move in the air which accounted for the latter. Even Dhawan didn’t look in great touch and he went back after scoring 23 off 46 balls.

MS Dhoni walked in to bat at number four and he rebuilt the innings along with Virat Kohli. But the Indian captain couldn’t bail the team entirely out of the trouble and it came down to the veteran once again to win the game. He soaked in all the pressure, played a lot of dot balls but made sure that the match didn’t go away from India. Kedar Jadhav also supported him well and the duo stitched an unbeaten match-winning partnership of 121 runs for the fourth wicket.

While Dhoni remained unbeaten on 87 runs off 114 deliveries, Kedar played a useful knock of 61* runs and the win was achieved in the last over once again.

Chahal wrecks havoc

Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl first after which the rain intervened at the start of the innings. But then it was all India in the first hour with Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking up the Aussie openers for the third time in this series. Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh rebuilt the innings then with a 73-run partnership. At 99/2 after 23 overs, the things looked in the balance.

But Yuzvendra Chahal’s introduction turned the game around completely in India’s favour. The leggie accounted for six of the last eight wickets to fall and two of them fell in the very first over of his spell. He nipped out both the set batsmen. While Marsh was stumped down the leg-side cleverly, Khawaja got out tamely off a harmless delivery. The Men in Yellow never recovered from then and kept on losing wickets at the regular intervals.

Chahal was all over them as he ended with the magical figures of 6/42 and also became the first spinner to pick six wickets in Australia. Australia were bundled out for 230 runs in the 49th over which looked way under par at the MCG at that point. But the home side made it tough for India with the pitch slowing down considerably.

However, once again, MS Dhoni was at the helm for the visitors for the second consecutive who took the game into his forte and finished it like a boss. The social media gimmicks also dedicated some of the memes while other few players were also targetted.
