When you are on a cricket field, you definitely don’t want to be someone who hurts his teammates. And, it is your senior pro, you definitely don’t want to be in the firing zone. During day one of the fourth and final Test between India and Australia, Prithvi Shaw was exactly in the firing zone when he threw a ball and it hit Rohit Sharma.

The incident took place when the Australian batsmen Matthew Wade and Marnus Labuschagne were trying to sneak a single in the middle. Prithvi Shaw, who was on as a substitute fielder took the ball and tried to aim to the non-striker’s end. However, what he didn’t notice was that the trajectory of the ball would take it to Sharma, who was just casually standing there. The ball went and hit Shaw’s fellow mate from Mumbai and the vice-captain was clearly not impressed.

Some friendly banter between Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw

The Indian opener didn’t say anything but obviously was not happy with what happened. He just looked around and then slowly went and picked the ball up. Former Australian player Glenn McGrath and Sanjay Manjrekar, who were on the air at that time, joked that Shaw would have got an earful from the vice-captain, had there not been so many cameras around.

Australia bat well but India chip in wickets

India had a great start with the ball after losing the toss and being put into bowl. They quickly dismissed both the openers but Labuschagne handled the innings quite well. The local boy smashed a brilliant hundred, the fifth of his career and first against India. He went on to score 108 runs.

India fielded two debutants in Washington Sundar and T Natarajan. Shardul Thakur also came into the side along with Mayank Agarwal. Neither Ravichandran Ashwin nor Jasprit Bumrah was able to get fit in time for the final Test. Sundar picked the wicket of Steve Smith, while Thakur’s first Test wicket was of Marcus Harris. Natarajan also got his first Test wicket when he dismissed Wade.
