Even as Team India registered an emphatic victory over Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, Rohit Sharma also entered a new phase of his life. He and his wife were blessed with a baby girl and the father is flying back home to meet her. With only three days of turn around between the two matches, Rohit is set to miss the fourth and final Test match of the series against Australia.

According to the reports in the Times of India, Rohit Sharma is travelling back to India to attend his wife Ritika and the baby girl. He will be missing the Sydney Test now after scoring fluent 63* in the first innings of the Boxing Day Test.

“It would’ve been great to have him (Rohit) around. Tactically, he brings so much to the side and then his batting provides the right kind of balance to the side. But what awaits him is far bigger and more important,” the source said.

Will be back for ODIs

Meanwhile, Team India is also scheduled to play three One-Day Internationals from January 12 and Rohit Sharma is the vice-captain of the team. He is expected to join the squad again ahead of the series opener after meeting his wife and new member of the family.

Having said that, the visitors will miss him in the final Test and it will be interesting to see who replaces him. With the pitch in Sydney set to assist the spinners, they might be tempted to play either Kuldeep Yadav or Ravi Ashwin. The latter is still recovering from his injury and might be preferred ahead of the chinaman given his batting credentials.

Having said that, Virat Kohli tends to surprise everyone with his team selections always and another might be in the offing in the near future.
