Australia have strained to find their feet ever since the ball-tampering scandal against South Africa in Cape Town. They not only lost the match but also slumped to a humungous defeat in the final match at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Recently, they lost the ODI and T20I series against the Proteas as Faf du Plessis became the first captain to win series’ across all the formats in Australia.

Prior to that, Australia lost the two-match Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Albeit the visiting team put up a tough fight in the opening encounter in Dubai, the visitors surrendered tamely to Sarfraz Ahmed’s men in Abu Dhabi and conceded the series. Now the team is set to play a four-match Test series against India, which gets underway on December 6 in Adelaide.

Some big call from Warne

In the meantime, Shane Warne, the former Aussie leg-break bowler, has put forth his version of the playing eleven in the first Test. The veteran mentioned that he would’ve gone for the eleven had he been the national selector. Warne has called for both Marsh Brothers- Shaun and Mitchell- to be included despite their below par show against the Pakistani team.

Both batsmen faltered miserably with the bat in hand. While Shaun scored 14 runs in four innings, Mitchell managed only 30 runs. He has removed all-rounder Marcus Labuschagne from the eleven. Labuschagne made his Test debut against Pakistan, but couldn’t quite make much of an impact.

He could muster only 81 runs, combining four innings at a dismal average of 20.25. The experienced campaigner has named Tim Paine as the captain with limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch as his deputy.

Here is Warne’s playing eleven

Aaron Finch (VC), Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis, Tim Paine, Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon
