Things are beginning to heat up as there are just a few days before India’s tour of Australia commences. There are several pieces of advice flowing in for both the teams. The ex-cricketers from both the nations want their team to be triumphant. To achieve the same, former opener Simon Katich wants Aaron Finch to bat lower down the order.

Finch made his Test debut recently against Pakistan. The right-hander opened the innings for the team in the UAE and looked good. While many would expect him to continue at the same position where he has found great success, Katich feels otherwise. He thinks that conditions in Australia are different and opined that Finch would be better off facing Ravichandran Ashwin or Kuldeep Yadav batting at number five.

“Aaron Finch’s best place in this batting line up is at five, purely for these conditions,” Katich told radio station SEN on Wednesday.

Finch is a good player of spin

“I know he had a good start to his Test career in the UAE but the conditions here in Australia are so different against the new ball with more pace and bounce. Australia need to set up their innings with their top three. They did it very well in the UAE with Finch and Usman Khawaja doing the job, but I think in Australia it’s a different kettle of fish,” said the former opener talking about the conditions.

He also heaped a lot of praise on the Indian bowling attack and said that they could easily clock 140 clicks. “India have got a good pace attack. The fast bowlers they’ve got at their disposal now, they’ve got a good battery that are all around the 140kph mark,” he further added.

“The other thing about Finch batting at five is he is a good player of spin coming out against an older ball with the spinners on, someone like Ravichandran Ashwin bowling or potentially Kuldeep Yadav, he’ll have a big role to play.”

He also opined that Matt Renshaw could come into the reckoning for the series and expressed disappointment that the left-hander didn’t get a game in the UAE.
