The Australian local league games are turning into record-shattering events as a Victorian third-grade cricketer Nick Gooden, playing for Yallourn North in the Central Gippsland cricket competition, grabbed a rare triple hat-trick with the ball. A triple hat-trick basically means five wickets in ball consecutive legal deliveries. The bowler managed to scalp eight wickets in 10 balls.

Earlier, it was brought to our notice that Josh Dunstan, representing West Augusta B Grade in South Australia, whacked a record-breaking triple hundred. The batsman scored 307 runs in a 35-overs-a-side contest, where he smashed 40 sixes. He scored more than 86% of his team’s runs as the side finished on 354/9.

There is nothing special about it: Gooden

There’s nothing special about it — there’s definitely no pace involved,” Gooden was quoted as saying by Weekend Sunrise. “The general plan when we got out there was just to get off as quick as we could so we could get on the frothies,” he said.

“I said to the boys ‘let’s just roll through these guys and get off and have a beer’. I think we were having a beer at about three o’clock.” It has been reported that Gooden is a right-arm medium pace bowler and he was coming back from a long lay off, as he last turned out with the ball in December.

Gooden honestly admitted that his bowling is nothing extraordinary and his feat was very much on the ground after achieving the feat. “I just roll the arm over, I’m not fast or anything like that. I really wasn’t bowling very well,” said Gooden. “I started with two wides … one was a big off-side wide and the other was a big leg-side wide and everyone was laughing at me. But for some reason, I just couldn’t miss, and I hadn’t trained or anything so it was out of control.”
