Australia and Pakistan face-off each other at Edgbaston, Birmingham in a warm-up fixture ahead of the commencement of ICC Champions Trophy. However, the dimensions of the ground are all over the place as the western end of the ground has its boundary at only 42 meters to the joy of the batsmen in the Australian and Pakistani camp.

The groundsmen are currently working on providing the finishing touches of the extreme west strip from the central pitch where the game of is scheduled to be played. However, according to ICC’s regulations for the constitution of a match, the minimum dimension of the boundary should be 59.43 meters. It would be interesting to see as to how the batsmen utilize the playing conditions.

That said, the boundary at the eastern end towards Eric Hollies Stand would be relatively longer but the groundsmen are planning to bring the boundary 20 meters ahead to even up the dimensions. One of the journalists for cricket.com.au posted a picture of the strip scheduled to be used, being covered up. “Covers on the pitch for Australia’s #CT17 warm-up v Pakistan at Edgbaston. ICC says that short boundary is 42 meters. Could be entertaining!” captioned Martin Smith’s along with an aerial view of the strip.

Maxi interviews Lynn

Destructive middle order batsman Glenn Maxwell recently interviewed his fellow compatriot Chris Lynn ahead of the warm-up fixture as they both eyed the ridiculously short boundary to make merry of the playing conditions. “I think I might take that option (of the short boundary). I think in the last trial game I took on the long boundary and was caught about 20 (metres) in so I might be a bit wiser this time.” quoted the swashbuckling middle-order batsman in the interview according to cricket.co.au

Australia starts off their Champions Trophy campaign against their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand on the second of June at the same ground where they play the warm up match.
