Indian cricket in the recent few years has seen numerous young fast bowlers coming up the ranks. One such quick bowler who possesses some good pace is Avesh Khan. Khan has been endorsed by many former cricketers and pundits as a cricketer who should be invested in. Adding to this opinion is former Indian bowler, Irfan Pathan, who has called for the youngster to receive similar backing from the Indian team’s management as Mohammed Siraj so far has.

Calling Khan talented, Pathan stated that sometimes a player can have a few bad days and that is when they require the most support from the skipper. He also credited former captain Virat Kohli as someone instrumental in Siraj’s growth having given him adequate backing that the bowler needed at different times.

“Backing is very important for every player because when you play in international cricket, you have more bad days than good days,” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports.

“When you have those bad days, it is important that your captain and the team management backs you. When we talk about Mohammed Siraj, Virat Kohli backed him a lot. I would go to the extent of saying that Kohli should be credited for the confidence with which Siraj bowls in international cricket. So yes, players need that backing. And I believe Avesh Khan should receive the same backing as Siraj because he has that talent,” Pathan added.

Notably, the 25-year-old fast bowler recently made his International debut in the T20I series against West Indies. He also played the third and final T20I of the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka. The Indore-born cricketer burst onto the scene at the IPL  in 2021. Playing for the Delhi Capitals, Khan proved to be a wicket-taker for the team and was instrumental in their journey to the playoffs. He was recently purchased by Lucknow Super Giants at the IPL mega auction for a whopping INR 10 crore thus making him the most expensive uncapped player (at the time of the auction) in the history of IPL.
