Pakistan limited-overs skipper Azhar Ali is very happy and pleased with the Pakistan team’s preparation ahead of the Test series against England. Pakistan won the 2-match ODI series 1-0 against Ireland after the second match completely getting washed off without a ball being bowled on Saturday.

Pakistan won the first match convincingly, as the hosts were bundled out for 82 while chasing 338 to win. Azhar said that he would have liked to play the second ODI too, as Pakistan wanted to experiment with some players or tactics.

“It was a very good performance in the first ODI, we wanted to experiment with a few more things today. It was another international to win and we would have loved to have played but the rain had the better of the day,” he said.

The 31-year old also happy with the preparation and is inching to go for the series against England. He said that even though they weren’t able to practice much after the first ODI due to rain, the two days at Southampton was really good for the side. “I am still very satisfied with our preparation, and although because of the rain we could not get much practice in here, we have two days in Southampton and we will be ready to go for the first game against England.”

Azhar adds that Pakistan as a team has quite a few flexible options with all-rounders in the squad. “We have a lot of options, especially with the all-rounders coming in, Mohammad Nawaz and Imad Wasim and if they keep performing, and if Sharjeel performs and continues his form into the England games, we are looking very good,” he concluded.

The ODI series between England and Pakistan will commence from August 24 at the Rose Bowl stadium, Southampton.
