Babar Azam always appears calm, and this is where he has an edge over Virat Kohli : Saqlain Mushtaq

The cricketing fraternity has often drawn parallels between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli due to certain similarities between them. The Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is the latest one to do so as he has compared a few qualities of both the players. Often both of them are mentioned in the same breathe with regards to their batting technique, hunger for runs, and the huge impact they have on their national sides.

Mushtaq termed both of them as world-class players and also mentioned that Virat has scored runs everywhere by dominating the opposition. Kohli is known for the passion and aggression he brings to the 22 yards. Whereas on the other hand, Babar Azam seems to be comparatively calm and composed on the ground. Mushtaq further highlighted these aspects of both of them and claimed that the Pakistan skipper has the edge over Kohli owing to his calmness.

“Virat gets aggressive, but Babar is humble and calm, which is a positive for him. Sports science says that when there is a matchup between aggressive and calm personalities at the top, calm always triumphs. To play the best of cricket across formats, the fitness level of the players has to be at its best. The former spinner thus also spoke about the fitness of Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. Mushtaq complimented the former for his fitness and stated that even the Pakistan batter is not far behind.

Both the players have their distinct way of playing shots with utmost grace and talent. Opening up on the technique of the batters, Mushtaq pointed that as long as runs are coming,g technique shouldn’t be a thing to consider. He also added that there are varied other characteristics that are crucial ahead of technique to play at the highest level.

“Both are making runs, so the talk of technique is pointless. What I think is that, while the technique is needed, but when you are making runs, the technique is thrown out of the window. Attributes like tactics, physique, resilience, how to apply pressure, and mental strength become more important at the highest level.” Saqlain Mushtaq added
