'Babar Azam can beat records of former Pakistan greats,' says Waqar Younis

Pakistan cricket is going through a rough patch and their performances have been on its decline. But, then there is Babar Azam against all the odds is making his name among the best active cricketers in the world. He is consistently making big runs for his team. On many occasions, he single-handedly turned the outcomes in his side’s favour with his wooden sword.

Babar made his debut against Zimbabwe back in 2015 in ODIs for Pakistan and became a regular part of the team. Also, he is currently standing just behind Indian skipper Virat Kohli in terms of having the highest average in one-day internationals. In past former cricketers had praised his batting technique, but now his country’s great has laid a viewpoint over Babar.

Waqar Younis thinks Babar Azam can break some big records in cricket

Former Pakistan bowler Waqar Younis feels that he 25-year-old has everything that what it takes to break some big records. “Babar Azam is probably one of the batsmen we have at the moment who can really go on and beat records of Javed Miandad, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan; he is the guy who can challenge their records,” Waqar said as quoted by Pak Passion.

Waqar thinks that it is good to have Babar in Pakistan’s ranks. He had gone through a process in order to transform into a star batsman, “Good thing about Babar Azam is that he has come through the ranks – he’s played U16, U19 and also played plenty of cricket for Pakistan A also; he is doing a wonderful job for himself and Pakistan and growing in confidence and getting better,” he added.

Top-order batsman was recently appointed as the vice-captain against Sri Lanka. He suffered a sudden dip in his form during T20I series and managed only 43 runs in three matches at a low average of 14.33. Currently, he is playing in a domestic T20 league. Babar Azam is expected to be a part of the team that will go on its tour to Australia.
