Babar Azam is going to be the backbone of Pakistan batting: Shahid Afridi

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has never shaded away from putting forth his views. The all-rounder has put forward his strong belief in the potential of Babar Azam. He believes that Babar has the potential to win games single-handedly for his national side in the future.

Pakistan is set to take part in the three-match Test series against England with the first Test slated to be held at Old Trafford, Manchester starting 5th August. After the Test series, a three-match T20 series will take place and Babar Azam will be leading the side. Therefore Lala has pinned a lot of hopes from the young leader and believes that Babar will be very crucial for Pakistan’s chances.

The Pakistan legend heaped a lot of praise on Babar Azam and was hopeful of the young lad delivering his best for the team. “He is going to be the backbone of the Pakistan batting and he is a very focussed player. In the coming days, he should single-handedly win matches for Pakistan,” Afridi told Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan has a very strong fast bowling unit traveling to England. They have a good mixup of the young and experienced lad in their group with likes Naseem Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Wahab Riaz, and Mohamad Abbas featuring in the list respectively.

Lala seemed confident that the Pakistan bowlers will make life tough for England batsmen whenever they take the field. “I see a great future ahead of Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi and we also have the experienced trio of Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Amir, and Sohail Khan who can teach these youngsters a lot in England,” the former cricketer said.

Shahid Afridi also felt optimistic about the coaching staff. He believed that with the team management comprising of the greats like the Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Waqar Younis and Mushtaq Ahmed working as the head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, and spin bowling coach respectively, Pakistan team would surely benefit. He said that having such a coaching staff will help the team get the desired results.
