The second day of the ongoing first Test between Bangladesh and West Indies was all about Mehidy Hasan who slammed his maiden century in the format. The hosts, on the back of his 103-run knock, managed to post 430 runs on the board in the first innings. Shakib Al Hasan (68) and the contributions from the lower-order assisted him well. In response, West Indies lost a couple of wickets early but their skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (49*) held forte for the team as they ended the day at 75/2 with Nkrumah Bonner also batting well.

Here are all the statistical highlights from Day 2 of the first Test between Bangladesh and West Indies:

7 – This is the second time that Bangladesh have included as many as seven left-handers in their playing XI in this Test match. They did the same in a Test against Australia in 2017 at the same venue (Chattogram).

1 – This is the first time that Bangladesh batsmen managed to stitch 50+ partnerships for 5th, 6th, and 7th wickets in Tests. Mushfiqur and Shakib added 59 runs for the fifth wicket after which the latter joined hands with Liton Das to score 55 runs together. Mehidy then joined Shakib as the duo stitched 67 runs for the seventh wicket stand.

67 – 67 was the highest partnership for Bangladesh in the first innings of this Test. This is the lowest ‘highest partnership’ ever after a team scored more than 400 runs in an innings in Test cricket. The previous record, in this aspect, was held by England in the second innings with 72 being their lowest ‘highest partnership’ after scoring 432/9 against West Indies in Kingston Test in 1974.

67 was also the lowest ‘highest partnership’ in a Test innings which had five 50+ stands. Bangladesh batsmen managed to stitch half-century partnerships for 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 9th wicket. The previous lowest ‘highest partnership’ in a Test innings with five half-century stands was 69 by Pakistan in the first innings against Zimbabwe in Lahore in 1998 when they scored 325/9.

4 – Mehidy Hasan became the 4th Bangladesh player to score his maiden first-class century in Test match. Last such player to do so was Abul Hasan against West Indies in the 2012 Khulna Test.

6 – Mehidy Hasan also became the 6th Bangladesh player to score a Test century while batting at no.8 or lower position. Sohag Gazi was the last player to score a ton while batting at no.8 or lower against New Zealand in 2013 Chattogram Test.

81.3 – Rahkeem Cornwall dismissed Shakib Al Hasan in his 25th over of the innings. He took a wicket after a gap of 81.3 overs in Test cricket. Cornwall’s last Test wicket was Asghar Afghan which he took during a Test against Afghanistan in November 2019.
