Bangladesh haven’t put much foot wrong in their ongoing ODI series against Bangladesh. The team, captained by Tamim Iqbal, has managed to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. In both games in Dhaka, the home team bowled first and wrapped up the opposition batting on spin-friendly. Their batsmen were circumspect but got over the finishing lines without many hiccups.

The third and final ODI is set to be played on Monday, January 25 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. But BCB chief Nazmul Hasan Papon doesn’t wish to take it as a dead rubber since there are points up for grabs in the ICC Super League. The Tigers would be looking for a clean-sweep. As far as the West Indies are concerned, they have found themselves short of firepower.

Without some of their key stars missing from their squad, they haven’t posed much threat to the opposition. Their batting has failed miserably, though their bowlers have been able to keep a check on the run-scoring. Jason Mohammed and Co would be hoping for a change in venue to bring in a change in fortunes for the team. The task won’t be easy though as the Tigers are full-strength.

Playing Combinations for BAN vs WI

Bangladesh

Going by Papon’s words, the bench strength of the Tigers may not get chances, barring an odd one here or there. Rubel Hossain hasn’t picked up a wicket and he might make way for Mohammad Saifuddin, who made his comeback to competitive cricket through the Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

Najmul Hossain Shanto couldn’t score big in the first two games after smashing a ton for Minister Group Rajshahi. Shakib Al Hasan found his mojo back with the bat in the last match. Hasan Mahmud has garnered praises as well. Soumya Sarkar would be hoping that he gets a chance to bat or bowl.

Probable XI

Tamim Iqbal (C), Liton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (WK), Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain/Mohammad Saifuddin, Hasan Mahmud

Bench: Afif Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Mithun, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Rubel Hossain/Mohammad Saifuddin

West Indies

There’s nothing much to speak about the West Indies batting unit. Rovman Powell is their leading run-scorer with 69 runs at an average of 34.50. The next top-scorer with 40 runs is Kyle Mayers, who bagged a duck in the last match. The rest of their batters have been shambolic, to say the least.

In their bowling department, Akeal Hosein has been the standout performer. Skipper Mohammed has two wickets to his name. But the fast bowlers are yet to contribute for them. Among the speedsters, only Raymon Reifer has picked up a wicket. Even Alzarri Joseph is yet to pick up a wicket.

Sunil Ambris, Kjorn Ottley, Joshua da Silva (WK)/Jahmar Hamilton, Andre McCarthy, Kyle Mayers, Nkrumah Bonner, Jason Mohammed (C), Rovman Powell, Raymon Reifer/Keon Harding, Alzarri Joseph, Akeal Hosein

Probable XI

Bench: Joshua da Silva (WK)/Jahmar Hamilton, Raymon Reifer/Keon Harding, Chemar Holder

Players to watch out for

Tamim Iqbal- Bangladesh

The story has mostly been about how the bowlers have done in the series. However, amidst the focus on the spinners, Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh skipper, has come to the party.

In the first game, he missed out on getting a half-century, but made amends in the second, though he got out soon after. The batter would get to play in home conditions and he would want to play a decent knock.

Akeal Hosein- West Indies

It goes without saying that Akeal Hosein has been their go-to-man in the series thus far. In the first game, he garnered praises from Ian Bishop after picking up three crucial wickets. He completed his quota of 10 overs in the opening game as well.

In the second match, he was economical, though he managed only a solitary wicket. The visiting team would be hoping for him to keep up with his good form.
