The Bangabandhu T20 Cup starting on Tuesday will see the resumption of professional cricket in Bangladesh since the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of the regular Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the country’s board has decided to organize a 5-team T20 competition involving only the local players. The five teams participating in the competition will be Beximco Dhaka, Fortune Barishal, Gazi Group Chattogram, Gemcon Khulna and Minister Group Rajshahi. This tournament will mark the return of the country’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan after serving a ban for failing to report corrupt approach.

Here we look at all the key stats and numbers that matter ahead of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup:

Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad have a chance to join the list having scored 1975 and 1900 runs respectively at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

11.48 – Bowling strike rate of Taskin Ahmed in Twenty20 format since the start of 2019; the 3rd best for any bowler who has picked 30 or more wickets in T20s during this period. Taskin claimed 33 wickets across 20 T20s he played since the start of 2019 with help of five 3-wicket hauls.

23.66 – Batting average across the 28 matches hosted by Mirpur, Dhaka during the Bangladesh Premier League 2019-20. The average batting strike rate during BPL 2019-20 at the venue read 125.05 during those 28 games.

121.36 – Tamim Iqbal has a batting strike rate of 121.36 in the T20 format since the start of 2019; the lowest for any player in Men’s T20s with 1000+ runs since the beginning of 2019. However, Tamim averages 38.96 in this period having scored 1091 runs across 32 games with help of a century and six fifties.

140 – Mustafizur Rahman needs 10 more wickets to become just the 2nd player from Bangladesh to complete 150 wickets in the Twenty20 format. Shakib Al Hasan tops the list with 354 wickets to his name in the format; over 200 scalps more than any other Bangladesh cricketer.

Rubel Hossain also has a chance to join the list having picked 137 wickets in the T20 format thus far. Mashrafe Mortaza is ahead of both Mustafizur and Rubel with 146 wickets but won’t be part of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup due to hamstring injury.

192 – Mushfiqur Rahim is likely to become only the 4th player from Bangladesh to feature in 200 T20 matches if he plays at least eight games during Bangabandhu T20 Cup. Rahim needs five more catches to become the first Bangladesh player to 100 catches in T20 cricket. He has taken 95 catches till date in T20s including 91 as a wicketkeeper.

985 – Number of wickets Shakib Al Hasan has picked in his professional career thus far including the 354 wickets in the T20 format. The all-rounder needs 15 more scalps to claim 1000 wickets across all the three formats.

With those 30 runs, Shakib will also become only the 3rd player after Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell to achieve the all-round double of 5000+ runs and 300+ wickets in the Twenty20 format.

5849 – Runs Tamim Iqbal has aggregated in his 209-match career in the Twenty20 format. Tamim needs 151 more runs to become the first player from Bangladesh to amass 6000 T20 runs. He needs to score those in four or fewer innings to be the 10th fastest player to achieve the milestone.
