Bangladesh completes a Whitewash against Pakistan: Bangladesh completed a 3-0 whitewash against Pakistan as they beat them by 8 wickets in their third and final ODI at Dhaka. With this win, Bangladesh have beaten Pakistan for the first time in a bilateral series ever since they got their ODI status. This series was the first time in which Bangladesh beat Pakistan in an ODI.
Chasing 251 to win, once again Tamim Iqbal got his side off to a flier as the duo put on 145 for the first wicket before Tamim was dismissed for 64 by Junaid Khan. Junaid also struck again when he castled Mahmudullah for just 4.
It was when Mushfiqur Rahim joined Soumya Sarkar at the crease. Both the batsmen batted sensibly, rotated the strike and kept the scoreboard ticking. Sarkar reached his maiden ODI hundred off just 94 balls with a six and put his side on the verge of winning. On the other hand, Rahim played with complete control and gave Sarkar confidence to go for the kill.
The duo put on an unbeaten 97 run partnership in 12 overs and steered their team home with over 10 overs to spare. Sarkar remained not out on a 110 ball 127 with 13 fours and six sixes while Rahim was stranded on a 43 ball 49.
Earlier choosing to bat, skipper Azhar Ali got his side off to a great start as he along with Sami Aslam and Haris Sohail put on a 91 run and 98 run partnership respectively. Ali reached his maiden ODI hundred and got out for 101 when he was castled by Shakib Al Hasan. When everything was going well at 202-2 in 39 overs, Pakistan’s batting line up collapsed as the remaining eight wickets fell for just 48 runs. Shakib and Mashrafe Mortaza starred as Bangladesh bundled the visitors for 250 in 49 overs.
Soumya Sarkar was named the Man of the Match while Tamim Iqbal was named the Man of the Series.
