In a generation where men cricketers are earning in crores, you will be shocked to hear how much a Bangladeshi women team member get as their match fees. Till last year’s National Cricket League they used to get BDT 500 for each match but now it has been increased to BDT 600 per match. It is simply pathetic that in today’s generation they get as low as Bangladesh taka 600. BDT 600 is equivalent to a mere Rs. 480 in Indian currency.
The question which is bound to be raised is how this is even possible at today’s age. Bangladesh women’s team skipper Rumana Ahmed expressed his disappointment at their match fees. “The amount is very little. It’s very disappointing. We feel humiliated at this,” quipped the national captain.
Another member of the team Awal Chowdhury Bulu also expressed the same opinion and couldn’t believe that they are paid so less. “Sponsors come up with millions in men’s cricket, but when it comes to women’s cricket, they don’t want to give away anything at all. We tried a lot to bring in some specific sponsors, but we failed,” she said.
The fixed salaries of the women cricketers are pretty low too. The 17 cricketers there in the women’s team they are divided into 3 groups and are paid BDT 30,000, BDT 20,000 and BDT 10,000 respectively according to their grades. A few days earlier the BCB increased the hike of the men’s team by a considerable margin.
When the issue was raised that why the women’s cricketer’s fees haven’t been increased during a press conference on Friday BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon said they had ‘forgotten’ to do anything with the female cricketers. It is a matter of shame that in the same countrymen players are given so much and the female doesn’t even get their dues.
