With the first Test of the very important two-match Test series knocking at the door, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have appointed former Indian left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi as the spin bowling coach of Bangladesh. Not that Joshi was the first preference of BCB as they wanted to hire former baggy greens’ spinner, Stuart MacGill, instead, but that deal didn’t materialize as MacGill was not willing to accept the offer. But that is past now and Bangladesh have settled for Joshi, who feels that the cricket crazy nation has immense potential, as far as his department spin bowling is concerned.
Joshi also admitted that bagging this big role is a huge opportunity for him and he can’t wait to get things rolling. Joshi has closely followed the likes of Shakib and Nasir and has also seen Miraz and Taijul in action. Bangladesh will play two Test matches against Australia and BCB will be closely monitoring the performance of the spinners under Joshi’s guidance, as spin holds the key for the Tigers to perform well against the mighty Kangaroos.
“I’m really excited; it’s a big opportunity for me. I’m eager to work with Bangladeshi spinners. I’ve closely observed Shakib Al Hasan and Nasir Hossain. I’ve also noticed Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam. I’ve seen immense potential in spin bowling here; they have a number of quality spinners. I’ll try to enhance their capability according to my ability,” said Joshi in an interview to Wisden India.
Making good communication is very important
The first Test match against Australia is in 5 days time and hence all that Joshi wants to do for the time being is telling the spinners about his work ethic and making a strong bond of communication. “I’ll receive at least four to five sessions before the first Test in which I want to be introduced with them. I’ll make them accustomed with my work in this period. It will be really important to make good communication with them,” said the 47-year old from Gadag, Karnataka.
