Bangladesh name unchanged squad for the 1st Test against Australia: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced its 14-man Squad for the first Test against Australia. Bangladesh will be hosting Australia in a Two-match Test series which is scheduled to commence from October 9. It will be the first time since 2006 that Bangladesh will host Australia in Tests in their den. Bangladesh has retained the squad which took on the Proteas in the 2nd Test match at Mirpur.
It is notable that the Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam has fully recovered from jaundice and he also features in the squad. It is yet not confirmed whether the Test series will go ahead as per the schedule or not. Recently, Cricket Australia (CA) had announced about the delay in departure of the national squad for Bangladesh due to security concerns.
The Australian government had raised security issues and had speculated that the militant groups in Bangladesh might target the Aussie players. Earlier, the Australian players were scheduled to leave for Bangladesh on September 28. As per the schedule, the first Test is to be played at Chittagong from October 9 while the second and final Test match of the tour is slated to be played at Mirpur from October 17.
Now whether the tour will go ahead on time or not will depend upon Cricket Australia’s Security official Sean Carroll’s meetings with various officials in Bangladesh. Carroll is likely to meet the Australian High Commissioner in Bangladesh as well as Bangladesh government, Police and Security officials.
