Bangladesh cricket is rapidly making strides in international cricket and their recent tour to Sri Lanka is an expression for the same. There are more young players coming through the ranks than ever before and the future of Bangladesh is going in the right direction.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now taken a decision about the contract of the players. The contracts of all the players were expired in December of 2016. The players then made their intentions clear regarding their pay and the board took the matter into their hands and have designed a system accordingly.

The players in the top grade will get a 63% salary hike in their monthly salaries while there is a small percentage of increment in all the grades. However, there are different aspects that the BCB will consider before contracting a player.

From now onwards, no player will be contracted only on the number of international matches played but also on their performance as well. To clear the confusion Nazmul Hassan said that it was harsh on the players who do not play much but give it their all when they play and for such players, the points system is put in place.

The BCB chief said, “We had a list of players, but there was confusion regarding one or two players. Until now we followed the points system, but that depends on which player plays more matches. But some of the good performers are not there because they haven’t played as many games.”

Players like Mosaddek Hossain or Mehedi Hasan Miraz are among those who performed very well for Bangladesh but haven’t played many games. Hassan revealed that around 15-18 players will be contracted as per the new rules and regulations.

He said, “For example, a Mosaddek Hossain or a Mehedi Hasan Miraz, they are not in the rating. We have said yes to the points system, but performance will also be looked into and then we will make the list again. I think around 15 to 18 players will be included in the new contract.”

The board is also planning an auction for the team sponsorship and the bidding will start from TK 60 crores which is 20 crores more than what the actual sponsor paid the last time around. This shows how the sport has grown in recent years in Bangladesh.
