Bangladesh is set to tour Ireland in May 2022 for only a three-match ODI series. It was previously stated that the Asian team will feature in a four-match T20I series along with the ODI series. But it has now been confirmed that the series will now take place sometime in 2023. The ODI series will be part of the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.

This tour of the Bangladesh team was initially supposed to be played in May 2020. However, due to the COVID pandemic and lockdowns around the world, the series was postponed. The series has now finally been given a date. However, the tour now will be split up into two parts with the ODIs in 2022 and T20Is in 2023.

The information was confirmed by a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official to Cricbuzz. The reason cited by the official is that Bangladesh has other international commitments to fulfill which stops them from playing the shortest format as well at this point. Both BCB and Cricket Ireland have agreed to this and decided to play only the 50 overs format for now.

“We have decided to play only an ODI against Ireland in May while we will play the four T20Is in some suitable time in 2023,” the BCB official confirmed to Cricbuzz. “We have got a home series against Sri Lanka before the Ireland tour while we are expected to tour West Indies after completing our stint in Ireland and so we have decided to cut off the T20’s from the Ireland tour in May 2022,” he added.

Bangladesh will fly to the West Indies straight from Ireland

According to the schedule of the Bangladesh cricket team, the men’s team will be facing Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series at home. That series is part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle 2021-23. In the same report, it was also tipped that Bangladesh will travel to the West Indies directly from Ireland.

The Bangladesh team is set to face the West Indies in two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is during that tour. The Test series will be part of the World Test Championship 2021-23, but the ODI series is not a part of the Super League. The ODI series between West Indies and Bangladesh which was part of the Super League’s current cycle has already been played earlier this year.
