Bangladesh lost three wickets in the first four overs of the first Test match of the two-match series against Australia at Dhaka but came back strong to pick up three Australian wickets after posting a respectable total of 260 runs. The 155-run stand between the senior men Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan helped the hosts recover from the early debacle with the partnership following another collapse. Australia lost the likes of David Warner and Usman Khawaja before the end of the first day’s play.

Here we look at all the stats and records created during the day’s play.

3 – Pat Cummins taking three wickets in first four overs of this Test match is only the 3rd instance since 2000 where a bowler picked up three wickets in the first four overs of a Test. Irfan Pathan picked three wickets in the first over vs Pakistan in 2006 at Karachi which included a hat-trick while Stuart Broad bagged three wickets in the first four overs during his 8/25 in the 2015 Nottingham Test against Australia.

5 – Only the 5th time in Test cricket, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan have batted together in an innings and the first time since the 2014 home Test against Zimbabwe.

24 – 24 runs aggregate by Bangladesh and Australia for the first three wickets in this game so far is the 2nd lowest aggregate for the first three wickets by both the sides in the first innings of a Test. The Melbourne Test between Australia and West Indies in 1981 witnessed only 14 runs for the first three wickets collectively in the first innings of both the teams.

50 – This game is the 50th Test match of both Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. They are the 4th and 5th Test cricketers from Bangladesh to make 50 and more appearances.

155 – Tamim and Shakib’s 155-run stand is the 2nd highest for Bangladesh in Tests for the 4th wicket. The highest is 165 between Shakib and Naeem Islam in 2012 against West Indies.

155 – Their partnership is the 2nd highest that initiated with the scoreboard reading 10/3 or worse in Test cricket. The highest from a similar situation is 237 by West Indies’ Larry Gomes and Clive Lloyd in 1983 against India after they were 1/3.

250 – Wickets Nathan Lyon has taken in Test cricket so far; he is the 8th Australia to take 250+ wickets in Test cricket and the 2nd spinner after Shane Warne.

250 – Nathan Lyon became only the 6th off-spinner to bag 250 and more wickets in Test cricket. The last of the previous five players is Ravichandran Ashwin.
