Bangladesh made a progressive start in the 2nd Test at the Chittagong after taking the 1-0 lead in the 2-match series against Australia. Fifties from captain Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman ensured the hosts ended the day at 253/6 after electing to bat first. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon with a 5-wicket haul put regular breaks to Bangladesh’s innings.

Here we look at all the stats and records created during the day’s play.

1 – Nathan Lyon became the first player to dismiss top four batsmen in an innings ‘lbw’. Bangladesh’s innings is also the first instance of the top four players getting out lbw to spinners. Overall, this is the 7th instance in Test cricket where top four batsmen in an innings were dismissed lbw.

3 – Bangladesh’s innings is only the 3rd instance in Test cricket where top five batsmen in an innings were left-handers. The other two instances were in the first innings in the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Test, 2012 and West Indies’ 1st innings in 2010 Test against Sri Lanka.

14 – Nasir Hossain became the 14th Bangladesh player to score 1000 runs in Test cricket. He completed the milestone in his 31st innings.

32 – Number of Test matches Mushfiqur Rahim has captained Bangladesh in; he has fielded an unchanged XI in all the matches. No player has captained as many as 32 Tests in their career fielding the same XI in consecutive Tests. Ray Illingworth has captained in 31 Tests in his career without an unchanged XI.

75 – Nathan Lyon’s 75 Test wickets in Asia are the 2nd most for an Australian. Only Shane Warne (127) has more wickets in Asia among Australians.

75 – Lyon’s 75 wickets are the 3rd most for a non-Asian spinner in Tests in Asia. Shane Warner (127) and Daniel Vettori (98) have picked more wickets in Asia in Test cricket.

1938 – Last time before Nathan Lyon, an Australian spinner opened the bowling in the first innings of a Test match was Bill O’Reilly in 1938 at Nottingham against England.

2005 – Last time an Australian player before Nathan Lyon (four 5-fers in 2017) picked up four or more 5-wicket hauls in a calendar year in Test cricket was Shane Warne in 2005 (Six 5-fers).
