Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal was the star of the day with the bat. He and partner Mominul Haque scored freely on a surface where most other batsmen found batting really difficult. Tamim scored a century, his 7th in Tests while Mominul was dismissed for 66. Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes shared all the Bangladesh wickets among themselves as Ali grabbed a five-wicket haul.

In their reply, England were off to a poor start as the Bangladeshi spin duo of Mehedi Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan made three early in-roads before the end of the day’s play. Here are all the stats and records from the day.

1 – Alastair Cook became the first player in Test history to score 10000 runs as an opener.

2 – This is only the 2nd Test England has played without James Anderson and Stuart Broad in the last 8 years. The other game was vs West Indies at Edgbaston in 2012.
