After levelling the series against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh began the two-match Test series against Windies on a solid tone with a 64-run win. Mominul Haque’s century helped Bangladesh post 324 in the first innings after winning the toss. The hosts earned a 78-run first innings lead after bowling out Windies to 246 with the debutant Nayeem Hasan taking 5/61.

Bangladesh crumbled in the second essay as they were bowled out for just 125 and set a target of 204 in front of Windies. Prior to lunch on the 3rd day, the Caribbean side was four down for just 11 runs. They were further reduced to 75/8 before a handy partnership between Sunil Ambris (43) and Jomel Warrican (41) structured a revival. The duo added 64 runs for the 9th wicket but got out in space of four deliveries just when Bangladesh had started to panic.

All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during the first Test match in Chittagong:

40 – Taijul Islam’s 40 wickets in only six Test matches in 2018 are the most for a Bangladesh player in a calendar year. He went past Mohammad Rafique’s tally of 33 Test wickets in 2003. Taijul has four five-fers in 2018 including two six-wicket hauls.

54 – Shakib Al Hasan became the 14th player with 3000 runs and 200 wickets in Test cricket. He also became the first Bangladesh player to claim 200 wickets in Test cricket in this process.

125 – Bangladesh’s total of 125 in the second innings is the 3rd lowest second innings total for any team to win a Test match in Asia.
