After the Test and ODI series, Bangladesh are all set to lock horns with Windies in a three-match T20I series, which is scheduled to get underway on Monday, December 17. Even as Sylhet will play host to the first match, Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka will host the second and third T20I. In the meantime, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the series.
The experienced Shakib Al Hasan, who captained the side to a 2-1 victory when the Tigers played the Caribbean team earlier this year, will lead the team. Fast bowler Mohammad Saifuddin and right-handed batsman Mohammad Mithun, both of whom played their last T20I against Sri Lanka earlier this year in Sylhet itself, has been included in the squad as well.
Speaking about Mithun’s inclusion, Bangladesh Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin said: “We have included Mithun as we need a batsman down the order. There is a gap down the order so we needed to fill it with a batsman and Mithun recently is having a good run with the bat.”
Mosaddek in the selectors’ radar
He also put forth the reasons behind Saifuddin’s inclusion. “We opted for Saifuddin as the team management demanded for an all-rounder, an out-and-out pace bowler, and that is the reason Abu Jayed had to make way for Saifuddin,” Abedin was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz.
Moreover, Abedin also talked about all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain, who recently played the Emerging Cup, jointly hosted by Colombo and Karachi. “We are keeping an eye on Mosaddek as he just played in Emerging Cup. We don’t want to rush with him,” he added.
Mosaddek was dropped from the national team after the Asia Cup, but he managed a couple of impressive knocks in the Emerging Cup, which included a century against Hong Kong and an 85 not out against Pakistan at Karachi National Stadium.
