Windies are currently in Bangladesh and haven’t had the best of times by any means. The Caribbean team lost their regular skipper Jason Holder prior to the tour and his exclusion has impacted them to a significant extent. Carlos Brathwaite captained the Test team, which slumped to a 0-2 whitewash, one of them being the Tigers’ biggest ever victory in their history of Test cricket.

Thereafter, Rovman Powell took the mantle of the ODI team. Unfortunately, a change in format couldn’t change their fortunes as they strained to find their feet. The T20I series is set to get underway on Monday, December 17 and the Windies would be in for another stern examination. Sylhet and Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka are the hosts for the three-match series.

Lewis back in the mix

In the meantime, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has put forth a 15-man squad for the shortest format. The Windies have made quite a few changes from their previous series against India. The experienced Kieron Pollard and left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy have been left out. However, the team has been boosted by the inclusion Sheldon Cottrell and Kesrick Williams- the fast bowlers.

All-rounder Andre Russell and off-spinner Ashley Nurse haven’t recovered from their shoulder and knee injuries respectively and hence, they missed out. The massive development comes in the form of 26-year-old Trinidadian left-handed batsman Evin Lewis’ inclusion.

The swashbuckling top-order batsman pulled out of the T20I series against India. Chris Gayle, who withdrew himself from the India series in order to take part in the inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) in Sharjah, hasn’t been included.

Here is the squad

Carlos Brathwaite (captain), Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Fabian Allen, Kesrick Williams, Keemo Paul, Khary Pierre, Evin Lewis, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas
