Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe: Eccentric scenes on the field as Bangladesh appeal for ‘obstructing the field’
It was quite a stunning appeal from Mushfiqur Rahim and Ariful Haque.

Bangladesh are playing Zimbabwe in the third ODI at Chittagong at the moment. After winning the toss, the hosts opted to bowl first. Zimbabwe lost the wickets of Hamilton Masakadza and Cephas Zhuwao early in the innings and were down to 6/2. Post this, Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams tried putting up a good fight.
It was when this duo was aiming to put up a decent partnership, a bizarre incident took place. Bangladesh pleaded for a wicket in the form of obstructing the field. This appeal took everyone by surprise as the batsman wasn’t really at fault.
The Bangladesh players didn’t seem to be impressed
It was during the 13th over of the first innings when this incident took place. Ariful Haque was the bowler and four runs were scored off his first four balls. It was in the fifth ball of the over when Brendan Taylor drove a ball straight towards the bowler.
In his run-up, Haque did exceptionally well to stop the delivery. At this point in time, he observed that the batsman was out of his crease as he played the shot on the front foot. Hence, he attempted to throw the ball back at the stumps. But, on the way, the ball hit the pads of the batsmen.
Mushfiqur Rahim was quick to appeal for obstructing the field as the other players soon joined him. However, after a discussion, the umpires rejected the appeal. This was because Taylor hadn’t moved a bit after he played the stroke. He never tried to get in the way of the ball intentionally. He was just standing at the same position and hence the umpires declared it to be not out.
However, both Rahim and Ariful didn’t seem to be happy with the decision. They were seen having a long conversation with the umpires even long after the decision was made.
Here is the video of the appeal:
