Veteran England pacer James Anderson has certainly aged like fine wine and only seems to get better with time. The England speedster, who turned 39 last week, put up an exhibition of high-class fast bowling in the recently-concluded 1st Test against India in Trent Bridge. Anderson made the red cherry talk and took four crucial wickets. In the process, he also became the third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, surpassing former Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble’s tally of 619 scalps in the purest format.

Cricket world was in awe seeing Anderson defying age as social media got flooded with praises. After all, you won’t see many fast bowlers thriving in Test cricket in their high 30s. However, Anderson belongs to a rare breed of pacers and it would be interesting to see how far he goes. While some believe the maestro can last till Ashes 2023, England’s Barmy Army sees Anderson playing in 2050.

England’s Barmy Army heaps massive praises on James Anderson

On Monday (August 9), the official Twitter account of England’s popular fan base shared a morphed picture of an old James Anderson celebrating a wicket. “The year is 2050 and a 68-year-old Jimmy Anderson has taken his 1,500th Test Wicket snicking off Virat Kohli Jr first ball” read the caption.

The comment section got flooded in no time with fans coming up with different reactions. While some netizens found the post amusing, a second of fans were disappointed. They bashed the Barmy Army for ‘disrespecting’ Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Some even claimed that the fan base has taken a potshot against Kohli over his failure in the recently-concluded Nottingham Test.

For the unversed, Anderson dismissed the Indian skipper for a golden duck in the match which resulted in a draw. In fact, the Kohli-Anderson rivalry is dated long back. In India’s 2014 tour of England, Anderson was all over the Indian batter, dismissing him four times in five Test matches. However, things changed when Team India traveled to UK in 2018. Kohli piled up a mountain of runs and Anderson couldn’t dismiss him even once.

While Anderson has definitely won the first round this series, Indian fans weren’t amused by Barmy Army’s celebrations. As a result, the England fan base was brutally trolled on Twitter.
