The recent BBL fixture between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers ended up with an anti-climax. For most part of the game, both sides competed fiercely to nose ahead of one another. The tension built up till the last over of the game. In the final over, it was Sydney Sixers’ bowler Sean Abbott who had the task of defending 9 runs.

While many expected the match to end on the last couple of deliveries, Abbott ended up committing a blunder with the ball. The experienced campaigner leaked as many as 11 runs off just one delivery of the final over to concede a win to the Perth Scorchers. Perth Scorchers aced home with 6 wickets in hand and five balls to spare. One might wonder how on earth did that happen?

Well, here is the story. With 9 get in the final over, the Sixers turned up to Sean Abbott to deliver. The fans vouched for a super over. Adam Voges was the man on strike. On the very first ball of the over, Abbott ended up bowling a wide ball. The ball not only missed the batsman by a mile but also ended up missing the wicketkeeper.

Five bonus runs were credited to the Scorchers’ account as a result of the five wides. Was it pressure? Well, not too sure about that. He indicated as if the ball had slipped out of his hands. He had to rebowl the first ball of the over as Scorchers needed 4 off just 6. The celebrations in the Perth camp had already started.

Sean Abbott ended up bowling a rank full toss and Voges swiped it with a cross bat to see the ball take a thick top edge over the keeper’s head for a maximum! 11 runs in just one legal delivery! Earlier in the game, Sydney Sixers had scored 167/4 in their 20 overs riding on cameos from Jordan Silk and Sam Billings. In the run chase, Michael Klinger was at the helm yet again with a phenomenal 83 off just 61 balls to guide the team through. Voges finished things off in style!
