The defending champions Adelaide Strikers started the season with a win before going down against the Melbourne Renegades at home while defending a target. The Strikers won all their six matches at home in the previous edition including five while batting first. After losing to Renegades, the Adelaide side were bundled out for only 88 against the Perth Scorchers. On a pace-friendly Perth track, the Strikers’ batsmen folded for their 2nd lowest BBL total against the Scorchers’ pacers.

They will now face the Sydney Thunder in the new year’s eve fixture at home. The Thunder began the season with back to back wins before losing to Hobart Hurricanes. They will take the field unchanged in the last match of 2018. The Strikers will have the services of Peter Siddle for this match who has been released from the Test squad. However, the Adelaide team would miss its primary weapon, Rashid Khan as his father passed away on Sunday.

Match Details:

The 14th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) will be played between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder at the Adelaide Oval.

The match starts at 6:45 PM local time (8:15 AM GMT) (1:45 PM IST).

The game will be live on Sony SIX and Sony SIX HD in India. Live streaming is available on Sony Liv.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The scores at the Adelaide Oval improved as the season progressed in the previous edition. The first three games in the last edition produced scores between 140 and 160 while the last three games witnessed 170+ totals. Teams batting first won five of these six matches due to the superior bowling line-up of the Strikers. However, the Renegades chased down 170+ in the previous match here. This match will be played after the completion of the WBBL game between Strikers and Sydney Sixers

Power Picks:

In seven Twenty20 matches at the Adelaide Oval, Colin Ingram scored 93 runs across seven innings at an average of 23.25. He had the best score of only 23. Ingram hasn’t had the best of starts to the BBL as he had scores of 2, 21 and 1. He didn’t get off to a good start in the APL either but finished on a high. The Strikers will be hoping for a similar shift from their skipper.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Despite a poor performance with both bat and ball in their respective previous matches, both Daniel Sams and Matthew Short will be the first choice for the multipliers. Jos Buttler is an alternative for captain but will be ideal as vice-captain. Rashid Khan can be selected based on his availability. He is captain material for this game due to the venerable batsmen in the Thunder lineup.

Suggest Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Jos Buttler (VC)

Batters – Colin Ingram, Shane Watson, Jake Weatherald, Jon Wells

All-Rounders – Daniel Sams (C), Matthew Short

Bowlers – Peter Siddle, Fawad Ahmed, Chris Green, Rashid Khan (or Billy Stanlake)

Suggest Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Alex Carey (VC)

Batters – Colin Ingram, Shane Watson, Jonathan Wells, Joe Root

All-Rounders – Daniel Sams, Matthew Short (C), Michael Neser

Bowlers – Fawad Ahmed, Chris Green, Rashid Khan (or Billy Stanlake)

Expert Advice:

Jos Buttler will be a direct pick from the keepers’ category due to his fifties in the previous two matches. However, Alex Carey too started the season with a fifty before getting run out in the next two matches. Carey could be as valuable as Buttler in this game.

Probable Winners:

The Adelaide Strikers are a better side on paper and are expected to register their first home win of the season.
