Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers, the teams with struggling batting line-ups will face off in the first of the two matches on the New Year’s Day. Their lower-order has contributed more towards the team’s total than their top five. Brisbane lost both their matches due to a collective batting failure while the Sixers, who have played four so far, won two and lost two. The two wins for the Sixers came when their bowling came to the party.

Heat will take the field after a 9-day break with a couple of changes to their squad. Alex Ross and James Pattinson come into the squad for the bowlers Matthew Kuhnemann and Mark Steketee. Ross’ inclusion to the squad will boost their batting while Pattinson returns after missing the previous game to attend a friend’s marriage. Sixers made a change with to their squad by bringing back Greg West in place of Lloyd Pope which might not affect the playing XI.

Match Details:

The 15th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) will be played between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers at the Carrara Oval in Queensland.

The match starts at 1:45 PM local time (3:45 AM GMT) (9:15 AM IST).

The game will be live on Sony SIX and Sony SIX HD in India. Live streaming is available on Sony Liv.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Carrara Oval has hosted two matches recently; the T20I between South Africa and Australia and one in this year’s BBL between Heat and Hurricanes. However, the surface remained on the slower side with the rain also making its presence on both occasions. Another slow pitch can be expected here going by the trend of the pitches, especially in the drop-in centres.

Power Picks:

The young players in Brisbane, Max Bryant and Mujeeb Ur Rahman hold the X-factor in their team. Bryant has the ability to give his team a quick-fire start which the Heat failed to capitalize in the previous match. On the other hand, Mujeeb can chip in with a couple of wickets while being economical. He can contribute with the bat if needed as he scored a quick 27 in the tournament opener.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

The likes of Chris Lynn and Ben Cutting will be crucial in multiplier roles. Despite Lynn’s struggles in the past two games, the Heat captain will be hoping to bounce back strongly. Tom Curran and Sean Abbott are alternatives for the multiplier roles as they both are getting enough time at the crease with the bat.

Suggest Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Josh Phillippe

Batters – Chris Lynn (C), Daniel Hughes, Jordan Silk, Max Bryant

All-Rounders – Joe Denly, Ben Cutting (VC), Tom Curran

Bowlers – Steve O’Keefe, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, James Pattinson

Suggest Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Josh Phillippe

Batters – Chris Lynn, Jordan Silk, Max Bryant (C), Alex Ross (VC)

All-Rounders – Ben Cutting, Tom Curran, Ben Manenti

Bowlers – Sean Abbott, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, James Pattinson

Expert Advice:

Joe Denly has struggled big time on slow pitches in Australia. Coming from success in the T20 Blast where the pitches are batting friendly, Denly got a bit of reality check. However, he failed to make most of his bowling too on suitable pitches. Moises Henriques also is low on confidence and both of them can be excluded on merit.

Probable Winners:

Sydney Sixers might get the better of Brisbane Heat due to their bowling on a slower track but expect Brisbane to bounce back.
