Despite their skipper Ashton Turner turning up with a blinder against Sydney Thunder, led by Shane Watson, at the Sydney Showground Stadium, the Perth Scorchers lost by one run and are languishing at the seventh position of the points table. Their next match is against the Brisbane Heat at the new Perth Stadium, which is set to host its second encounter in the 2018-19 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).
Another defeat tomorrow would make it extremely difficult for them to qualify for the next round. The Heat, captained by Chris Lynn, on the contrary, are placed at the bottom of the table as they are yet to open their account after three contests. Nevertheless, having played the least amount of games amongst the other teams, they have a cushion of a few matches in order to make a strong comeback.
Pitch and Conditions
In the first match at the venue between Adelaide Strikers and the Scorchers, the pitch turned out to be a slow and low one and it’s expected to pose difficulty for the batsmen provided the curators don’t plan to change the deck. Only 170 runs came off the 35.2 overs the other night. The spinners are likely to come into play. Another low-scoring affair may be in store for the upcoming encounter as well.
Team Combination
Perth Scorchers
The opening pair has the likes of Michael Klinger and David Willey with wicketkeeper Cameron Bancroft to follow. All-rounder Ashton Agar and captain Turner would bat at number four and five respectively, with Cartwright, Bosisto are the other batsmen. The fast bowling department would be shouldered by Courter Nile, Jhy Richardson, Tye and Behrendroff with Agar as the lone spin-bowling option.
Probable XI
Michael Klinger, David Willey, Cameron Bancroft (wk), Ashton Agar, Ashton Turner (C), Hilton Cartwright, William Bosisto, Nathan Courter Nile, Andrew Tye, Jhy Richardson, Jason Behrendroff
Brisbane Heat
The Heat are most likely to replace Sam Haezlett with Matt Renshaw. Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum, the former Black Cap, would continue to bat in the middle order. A lot would depend on the all-round abilities of Ben Cutting. Jimmy Piersen is the wicketkeeper. Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson and off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman are the spinners with Pattinson and Lalor being the fast bowlers.
