After sneaking in a close win against Brisbane Heat to kick-start their campaign, the Hobart Hurricanes will now travel to Bellerive Oval for their first home game of the season. The George Bailey-led side could consider themselves lucky to defeat Brisbane while defending 159 despite the efforts from Ben Cutting and Chris Lynn. Jofra Archer chipped in at crucial times to hand the Hurricanes the first win of the tournament. On the other hand, Melbourne Stars began with a defeat against Sydney Thunder in a rain-affected game.

Jason Sangha’s fifty powered Thunder to post 181/5 and left Stars to chase 90 in only eight overs after resumption. This Melbourne franchise is lite on their batting and with their captain Glenn Maxwell (0) and Marcus Stoinis (2) getting out cheaply saw them finishing on only 74/6. They will be hoping for a better show from their experienced batsmen in this game.

Match Details:

The 7th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) will be played between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

The match starts at 3:45 PM local time (4:45 AM GMT) (10:15 AM IST).

The game will be live on Sony SIX and Sony SIX HD. Streaming available on Sony Liv.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Bellerive Oval witnessed scores over 155 in all the five T20 matches played at this venue in 2017/18. Three of these matches were won by chasing sides while team teams batting first won by seven runs and five runs while defending 183 and 170 respectively.

The short square boundaries have helped the teams chasing at this venue as eight of the last 11 T20s have been won by second batting sides. The three games which the chasing sides lost in this span were by the margins of 7 runs, 5 runs and 1 run.

Squads:

Hobart Hurricanes:

Matthew Wade (C), Jofra Archer, George Bailey, Johan Botha, Alex Doolan, Jake Doran, James Faulkner, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Simon Milenko, David Moody, Clive Rose, D’Arcy Short.

Melbourne Stars:

Glenn Maxwell (C), Michael Beer, Jackson Bird, Scott Boland, Dwayne Bravo, Jackson Coleman, Travis Dean, Ben Dunk, Evan Gulbis, Sandeep Lamichhane, Nick Larkin, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.

Probable XI:

Hobart Hurricanes:

Matthew Wade (C), Jofra Archer, George Bailey, Johan Botha, Alex Doolan, James Faulkner, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Simon Milenko, Clive Rose, D’Arcy Short.

Melbourne Stars:

Glenn Maxwell (C), Ben Dunk, Nick Larkin, Marcus Stoinis, Dwayne Bravo, Evan Gulbis, Travis Dean/Scott Boland, Michael Beer, Jackson Bird, Sandeep Lamichhane, Adam Zampa.

Power Picks:

After his performances in the last game, Nick Larkin could well get a promotion in the batting order. The 28-year-old scored a 13-ball 28* with the help of three fours and a six. Johan Botha’s experience proved worthy in the last game and is expected to play a key role for Hobart once again.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

D’Arcy Short is back to his comfort zone and the performances have seen a spike. However, he could find things tough against the likes of Sandeep Lamichhane and Adam Zampa. Ben McDermott will be a valuable player if not for the run out dismissals. Glenn Maxwell will be hoping to take things forward from the front along with Stoinis and the duo can be a good choice for multipliers. Jofra Archer could well run through the weak batting of the Stars especially at the death.

Best Playing XI:

Matthew Wade, Glenn Maxwell, Ben McDermott, D’Arcy Short, Nick Larkin, Marcus Stoinis, Johan Botha, Jofra Archer, Riley Meredith, Sandeep Lamichhane, Adam Zampa.

Risky Playing XI:

Matthew Wade, Glenn Maxwell, Ben McDermott (C), George Bailey, Nick Larkin, Dwayne Bravo, James Faulkner (VC), Johan Botha, Jofra Archer, Sandeep Lamichhane, Jackson Bird.

Expert Advice:

If the likes of Archer, Sandeep Lamichhane and Adam Zampa are to be picked in the team, there will be no space for one of Marcus Stoinis and Dwayne Bravo due to the high price-tags. The Hurricanes’ all-rounder Sam Milenko is playing as a specialist batsman which will reduce his effectiveness in the game.

Probable Winners:

The Hobart Hurricanes could carry the momentum and get better off the Melbourne Stars with their bowling.
